Reduction in funding for independent schools
Most parents will have heard of the NSW Government’s decision to cut State funding to public, Catholic and independent schools.
The NSW Parents’ Council and the NSW Association of Independent Schools combined efforts in response to the original announcement have worked to limit the funding losses to our children and their schools, but even these lesser cuts will mean that some schools still lose a significant share of their State funding. It is inevitable that school fees will rise.
Sophie Love from the Auriel Hastings Steiner School new initiative has set up a community petition Stop NSW Slashing Education Funding.
“… The need to support education is vital to our children’s future. The proposed funding cuts would mean significant strain on independent schools. This would result in loss of support staff, teaching staff, larger class sizes and cuts to education programs. Independent schools would have little choice but to raise school fees, placing an additional burden on parents who make the choice to financially support their decision of which school they send their child to”.
Shearwater encourages parents to convey their objections to the funding cuts by signing the petition, and responding rigorously to this unfair and discriminatory proposal from the State Government.
